Likewise Rose, I too was perturbed by the sale of articles outside the Church on Sunday, of major concern to me was the oil. In my view the easy access to oil that is allegedly blessed might actually cause a lot of confusion, because I know for certain that in my Church oil as you state is used by the anointed, Priests only. Thus it is likely that if we purchase this oil some might think that they can use the oil to anoint the sick, rather than ask the Church. As you state we do need a discussion on some of these issues, to ensure that some oldies like me move with the times. Furthermore, I know that the Church does not sell anything that has been blessed by a Priest. Did the Church make any money from this sale???

On Sunday after the 8hrs00 mass I was rather perturbed to see a young man empty a a bag of wares some of which were were religious artifacts, but some were of a dubious nature as I have seen them in some Nigerian movies being used by these pastors who claim to have divine powers of curing the ill, casting out demons and in turn turning ill deeds on people. On questioning the young man on what the bottles of the yellow liquid were, he told me that they were olive oil. this struck me as being strange because I have never known the oil of the chrism to be sold. I know it is used in baptism, confirmation and in the last rites, but to be sold on the side walk like apples and chips was rather strange. when I asked him what it was used for , he did not know. can somebody please explain to me if the outside of our church has become a market place. To my knowledge the church sanctioned event are the buy a brick campaign and we also have a repository in the foyer of the church that sells religious artifacts and we know that if they are not available there, there is always the shop in Kensington or the shop at the catholic church in Edenvale. I speak under correction, but I am concerned that this tendency and some of the artifacts and the other thinhgs that were being displayed on the floor are just not familiar to some of us. Maybe Father Donnely can enlghten as I and some of the others who expressed their disqueit at this turn of event s might be wrong.

It takes forever for someone to answer the switchboard I was transferred three times, before anyone answered the phone to assist me
